Overview
We provide assessment and intervention services to individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other neurodivergent conditions using the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) as the framework. ABA consists of systematically applying procedures based on the principles of behaviour to improve socially significant behaviour to a degree that is meaningful for the individual and their family. Objective data is collected and analyzed to measure client progress and to guide decision-making of individualized programs. We work with clients and their families to address the following areas of concern:
- speech and language
- gross and fine motor
- visual performance
- play and leisure
- peer interactions
- social language
- perspective-taking
- theory of mind
- self-regulation
- independent work
- transitions and routines
- academics (e.g., reading, writing, spelling, and math)
- activities of daily living
- group instruction and participation
Assessment
Our service providers aim to help individuals in two fundamental ways:
(a) teach or improve functional skills, and
(b) minimize problematic or challenging behaviours
Thus, assessment of skills and behaviour are conducted separately.
Please contact us for more information about the various assessment tools, curriculum guides, and tracking systems we use.
Intervention
We design individualized programs for each client based on assessment results. After developing a program plan and gathering all necessary materials, the behaviour consultant and/or program manager trains parents and other team members (e.g., behaviour interventionists, school staff) to implement the intervention. The exact number of hours of intervention will depend on the consultant’s recommendation, family availability, and available resources.
Most of our services take place at our Burnaby clinic. Imago consultants occasionally work off-site at schools and daycares to conduct observations, meetings, or to train school/daycare staff. For home services, please contact us for more information.
Peer/Sibling Play
Does your child have difficulty with any of the following?
- Initiating
- Sharing
- Turn-taking
- Reciprocating
- Staying with others
- Winning/losing
- Playing fair
- Being flexible
- Negotiating
Guided play sessions with a peer or a sibling help to improve many areas of social functioning. During these sessions, we set up opportunities to work on your child’s specific target skills in a natural and fun way! Let us know if you would like to include this as part of your child’s programming.
Social Groups
We regularly arrange small groups of 4-6 children to work on targeted social skills. The children are selected based on similar language and developmental levels. There is also a high adult-to-child ratio to ensure adequate support in activities. Contact us for more information!
PIANO LESSONS
Learning to play an instrument, such as the piano, helps to improve attention/focus, ear training, motor coordination, posture, reading and understanding of music notation, self-regulation, and visual memory. Lillian currently offers private lessons at our clinic. Contact us to see if this might be a good fit for your child.
BACB SUpervision
