About

“Imago” is a term found in biology that refers to the last stage in metamorphosis for certain insects such as the butterfly. In this final stage of growth and development, the insect is mature and acquires functional wings. The word “imago”, thus, represents our goal in promoting independence in the individuals we serve. In order to accomplish that goal, we focus on three essential areas of training and support: the client, parents and other family members, and paraprofessionals/professionals. These are represented by the three blocks that make up the triangle in our logo.

Imago Learning and Behaviour Services Inc. (also known as Imago LABS) was founded by Lillian Liu, M.S., BCBA. Lillian has extensive field work and educational experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis. She began working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities in 2003. Lillian acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Psychology at the University of British Columbia in 2004. She also obtained an advanced certificate in Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis at Douglas College in 2010.

In 2016, Lillian completed a Master of Science degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis at St. Cloud State University. Her thesis, titled “Training Parent Implementation of a Visual Activity Schedule Treatment Package,” can be found at:

In addition to parent training and visual activity schedules, Lillian’s research interests include fluency, stimulus equivalence, self-monitoring, social skills training, theory of mind, staff training, and performance management.

Lillian’s experience has greatly shaped her practice. She understands the strengths and limitations of different behaviour-based assessment and treatment methods. The limitations motivate her to do more research and learning in order to fill in the gaps.

In 2019, Lillian completed the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) advanced training workshop in Vancouver, BC. This approach has enabled her to provide appropriate assessment and intervention services to very young children (ages 1-4) with autism.

Lillian is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) in good standing. She is also a Full Member of the British Columbia Association for Behaviour Analysis (BC-ABA) and a Chapter/Adjunct Member of the Association for Behaviour Analysis International (ABAI).
